Body Weight Supported Gait Training
One of the most necessary motor tasks for successful daily living is walking. Impairments of ambulation are often seen in the inability of the leg to bear the weight of the body and transfer weight from side to side. Body Weight Supported Gait Training is instrumental in developing efficient and functional ambulation for individuals with ambulation impairments.
- Body Weight Supported Gait Training (BWSGT) is a technique used in physical therapy to assist with improving ambulation.
- Patients with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders benefit from the proper upright posture, balance, and safety while ambulating on a treadmill.
- The comfortable suspension harness may be used to support a patient in standing, sitting, or on hands and knees to allow for various treatment options for both physical therapists and occupational therapists.
- The harness system may support a patient over a treadmill, partially unweighting the legs. The treadmill provides rhythmical input reinforcing a coordinated reciprocal pattern of movement.
- Even the most severely involved patients and patients with chronic walking problems can benefit from gains in balance, coordination and/or gait.
- BWSGT, compared to current treatment techniques may allow earlier intervention of gait training, decreasing recovery time and improving overall rehabilitative potential.
