If you are interested in the answers to these questions, you would benefit from a new class offered at SPOT Rehabilitation and Home Care.
COURSE CONTENT:
Much of our health care system focuses on illness or treating sickness. This course is designed to prevent illnesses and to find healthy requirements for food and exercise.
The objectives of this course are to explore popular weight loss programs in the public and to determine weight loss options for most people. It is also designed to discuss wellness options and foods to improve our health.
Week 1 - Obtain baseline measurements, set weight loss and fitness goals, begin journal and begin calorie counting. Discuss water/hydration needs.
Week 2 - Outline the weight loss principles, set caloric consumption goals, review food pyramid, identify behavior modification principles, and outline healthy/unhealthy foods.
Week 3 - Learn and begin new fitness/exercise regimen. Use a pedometer to measure daily walking.
Week 4 - Discuss antioxidant foods and healthy sweet alternatives. Discuss eating out and healthy cooking.
Week 5 - Share new research for weight loss, discuss other diets and give information about fad diets/yo-yo dieting, etc.
Week 6 - Review success, offer support and refer someone else to the program. Perform class survey.
Dates: Thursdays 5:30-6:30 P.M. (6 weeks TBA)

About the instructor:
Kirsten Mehr Becker - I am a physical therapist at SPOT for 8 1/2 years. I recently completed my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and designed this course as a final research project. I have also personally adopted a healthier lifestyle and exercise routine. I have enjoyed teaching and educating myself as I teach other participants. The course is designed for anyone interested in health and wellness. It is designed in a lecture and round table discussion format.
This course is not covered by insurance plans, however MAY be reimbursable under the Waiver Program or your Flex Plan.
